Watch as top economist expertly debunks Scotland’s GERS figures

A TOP economist has expertly debunked the GERS figures released today.

GERS figures set out the difference between the Scottish Government’s total revenue and total expenditure, with the latest data showing the Scottish Government took in £1.7 billion more in revenue last year than before.

Officials said the money had helped fund extra money for the health and social care sector and the Scottish Child Payment.

But speaking with The National on our Youtube channel (below), Richard Murphy said that the figures supposedly show the state of Scotland’s public finances but, in fact, “does not do anything like that”.

He added that GERS provides “no evidence” as to what Scotland's finances would be like if it was independent.

Murphy explains it all below.
