This year, record-breaking heat caused by global warming has turned this summer into one of the hottest across several parts of the world. Heat waves have already spawned wildfires across Canada, filling the New York City skyline with smoke back in June, while severe weather has also grounded flights and destroyed crops and livestock, too.
Our daily lives are becoming more affected by climate change -- and vacations are no exception. One TikToker took to the video clip app to share her experience as her dream vacation in Greece took a turn for the worst in just 24 hours.

Fionamichelle shared clips from her vacation to the "most perfect location in Greece," but she says it was "a weekend trip that turned into survival mode." The video begins with luxurious views of her beach-view hotel, complete with a beautiful pool and clear, blue skies in the background. But the mood quickly changed after "fire started due to heatwave."

"It kept getting worse," she writes over images of those beautiful blue skies, which have now turned an angry color orange. According to Fionamichelle, she "had to evacuate [the] hotel," but even that wasn't enough -- "fire spread to [the] area we were in," she says, showing images of fellow tourists standing on the beach, luggage in hand, with t-shirts tied over their faces to prevent smoke inhalation.

She says that eventually, "boats came to take us off the island," and "coaches [were] sent to get us to different hotels." But nearby hotels clearly weren't prepared for the influx -- because her video ends with her and a large number of other displaced tourists resting and even sleeping in what looks like a hotel banquet room.
"[It's] overly crowded, no hotels, no flights out," she writes as the lights go out in the giant room. In a later post, Fionamichelle seems to be keeping a sense of humor about the situation. She uses an audio clip to joke that she went to Greece to "run away from her problems," but she admits she “ran to more problems but ok.”
