Watch as Glasgow Batgirl filming sees explosive chase scene takes place on city streets

Part of Glasgow city centre was brought to a standstill for Batgirl last night as filming took place for a breathtaking high-octane chase scene.

Both Glassford Street and Ingram Street were shut off to traffic for the huge stunt sequence, which saw locals living in the area treated to a front row seat of the Hollywood action.

It saw Batgirl - played by Leslie Grace - give hot pursuit of a Gotham City Fire Department truck on her Batbike as two people fought atop the truck.

The scene, involving Batgirl's stunt double dressed in the Batsuit, offered movie fans the first look at the suit worn by baddie Firefly - played by Brendan Fraser - in the forthcoming HBO Max flick.

Footage of the scene shows Firefly grappling with a firefighter - brandishing an axe - atop the fire truck as it hurtles down Glassford Street and swerves onto Ingram Street - which causes the firefighter to cling on for dear life as they almost fall off the vehicle.

And the high-octane drama of the scene is completed by huge fireballs which light up the city centre streets as they propel out of two canisters strapped to the back of Firefly's suit.

Meanwhile, Glasgow Live has spotted which could well be the Batsignal in place on the roof of Glasgow City Chambers getting readied to be switched on for filming.

It comes after locals spotted a large object being lifted onto the roof - near to the spot where Batgirl's suit reveal was staged - by a huge crane at the weekend, with movie fans saying that it was shaped the same as the iconic Batsignal light.

Here's hoping we see it light up the skies above Glasgow over the coming days.
