Watch as giant RAF plane flies low over rooftops of Leeds homes

A huge military plane flew incredibly low over thousands of Leeds homes this morning as part of a training exercise.

The massive A400M Atlas set off from Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, the air force's largest UK base, earlier this morning before swooping low over several cities - including Leeds.

A tweet from the official RAF BRize Norton account said: "This morning, our A400M Atlas will be operating in the vicinity of Leeds, Leuchars and Inverness, whilst engaged in routine essential training."

Shortly before 9am, the plane arrived above Leeds and people all over the city dashed outside to find out what was causing such a loud noise.

Sian Meech, from Cookridge, managed to capture the video above from her back garden at 8.40am.

She said: "We live under the flight path for LBA and are used to commercial planes regularly flying over, however this was much louder than usual and very low!

"You don't get much opportunity to see military planes this close so it was an amazing sight!"

Leeds Bradford Airport is commonly used in training exercises by the RAF.

In 2018, LeedsLive was given a rare glimpse inside a £160 million Boeing C17 Globemaster when it arrived at the Yeadon terminal from Canada as part of a a military training week.
