The Japan internationalist hammered into the top corner to level the scores before the break at St Andrew's.

Iwata - who joined Birmingham on a three-year deal in the summer - has been a key player for the English League One side this season.

Birmingham sit top of the league with ambitions to return to the Championship next season but turned their attention to an FA Cup tie against Newcastle this weekend.

Within one minute, Birmingham were in front as Ethan Laird found the net. However, goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson turned the tie on its head after 26 minutes.

Five minutes before the break, though, Iwata stepped up to restore parity with an incredible finish from outside the box.

Urged to take aim with shouts from the crowd, Iwata unleashed an unstoppable first-time effort as he blasted past a helpless Nick Pope in goal.
