Scots actor David Tenant has surprised a Glasgow pensioner ahead of her 101st birthday next week by sending her a personal birthday message from the set of his hit show.
The Doctor Who and Broadchuch actor and his co-star Micheal Sheen sent Edna Clayton, who spent her centenary birthday alone due to lockdown restrictions, a very special video ahead of her big day on Monday, January 31st.
Speaking from the set of their Amazon Prime series Good Omens, David and Micheal congratulated Edna on turning 101.
“Wishing you a very happy 101st birthday,” said actor Micheal.
“101st birthday – that is quite impressive, it has to be said,” added co-star David.
“Well done.”
Edna, originally from Anderston, lived in Battlefield for decades but sadly didn’t receive a card from the Queen last year due to an admin error.
But an appeal from her care home has ensured she will have plenty of cards to open come Monday – with "boxes and boxes of cards" arriving through the post.
Mum-of-one Edna, who is one of 13 residents at Hector House in the south side, has been inundated with thousands of birthday cards from strangers all across the country.
She received a bumper 4,500 cards in the space of just the past three days and staff at the Glasgow care home now estimate she will have a whopping 10,000 cards to read on her birthday.
Care home worker Sarah, who looks after Edna at the centre, told Glasgow Live: "Right now we are working hard to open as many as we can and are planning to string them up all over the home.
"There must be at least 10,000, we have boxes and boxes full of cards."
Edna will have a trip on a party bus to look forward to with son James, 58, and her pals from the care home.
Hector House have also organised a tea party after the jaunt and local primary school children have been invited around to sing Happy Birthday.

The pensioner, spent her 100th birthday alone at her home due to lockdown, moved into Hector House in August last year and care staff have described her as a "popular character".
Prior to lockdown she was a full-time carer to her son, James, who has Down’s Syndrome and now lives in supported accommodation.
Sarah said: "She is still very capable and is certainly very excited about Monday.
"It's been overwhelming for her but she is thrilled.
"She likes to keep to herself and loves her afternoon naps. I've had to tell her she won't have time for that on Monday!"
Address for cards is - Edna Clayton, Hector House, 2 Hector Road, Glasgow G42 3RL
