Washington woman caught dealing cannabis three times after using it for pain relief jailed

A persistent drug dealer caught peddling cannabis three times after being introduced to the drug as pain relief following an accident has been jailed.

Debra Phillipson, 59, was caught with large amounts of the drug and thousands of pounds of dirty cash at her home in a succession of police raids. In May 2019 officers found 385g of cannabis, drug dealing paraphernalia and almost £12,000 of drugs cash.

Then in July 2020 another search warrant was executed and more drugs, cash and a debtors list were found. She wasn't present but the next day she was arrested and further cannabis was found. In total 290g of the drug were seized along with more than £10,000 cash.

Having been bailed again, police went back to her home in February this year and seized 1.5 kilos of cannabis and almost £9,000 of money. Examination of her mobile phone showed she was consistently being asked to supply people with the drug from her home and she was also delivering it.

Phillipson, of Cleeve Court, Washington, was convicted by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court of two counts of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and pleaded guilty to a third such charge. She was also found guilty of two offences of possessing criminal property and was convicted of a third such charge. Judge Penny Moreland jailed her for three years.

The court she was introduced to cannabis as a mean to pain relief following an accident. Phillipson, who represented herself, said: "I only got into it through my health problems, I'd not done anything like that before. I'm sorry for what I've done."
