A memorial service was held today for Washington State Patrol Trooper Christopher Gadd, who tragically lost his life in a high-speed crash. The incident occurred on March 2nd when a driver collided with Gadd's patrol car in Marysville, north of Seattle. Gadd, a 27-year-old dedicated officer, was fatally injured in the crash.

Family and friends gathered to pay their respects to Gadd, remembering him as a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, beloved son, and committed friend. The loss of Trooper Gadd has deeply impacted his community and loved ones.

The driver involved in the crash, identified as 32-year-old Raul Benitez-Santana, admitted to authorities that he had consumed drugs and alcohol prior to the collision. Benitez-Santana, who is in the country illegally according to ICE, is currently under an immigration detainer at the Snohomish County Jail.

The tragic incident has sparked a debate on the terminology used to describe individuals in the country without legal status. President Biden faced criticism for referring to a suspect in another case as 'illegal,' prompting a discussion on the use of language when discussing immigration issues.

While some have called for accountability and empathy towards victims of crimes committed by individuals without legal status, others have emphasized the importance of respectful language and distinctions in addressing immigration matters.

As the nation grapples with the complexities of immigration policy and enforcement, the memory of Trooper Christopher Gadd serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. His legacy will be honored and remembered by those who knew him and the community he served.
