Everyone knows that washing machines clean clothes. But not all of us know that the machines themselves can get a little gunky and gross.
An online cleaning influencer has debunked the myth that your machine keeps on working and cleaning without any support from you. And she's unveiled the truly horrid stuff that comes out when you look inside that little helper.
The tip, showed off by Instagrammer Babs aka @brunchwithbabs, also helps to prolong your machine's lifespan. She reveals the filter of your machine needs to be cleaned at least four times a year.
On her Instagram account she has posted a demonstration of how to remove the filter and clean it thoroughly. She uses a towel and a bowl to catch the excess water as she prepares to pull the filter out, reports MirrorOnline.
She describes the water as 'stinky winky' as the filter comes out looking disgusting - she then finds a rogue sock stuck behind the filter. Babs then sprays white vinegar on her cloth and used it to tackle the grime on the machine.
She explained: "Just wipe out the filter compartment. Just because it’s pretty bad. So after it’s dry, just take your filter and give it a nice twist to make sure it’s in tightly."
This process needs to be repeated four times a year, and Babs explained that it may be gross, but it doesn't take long, and will prolong the life of the washing machine.
Instagram users were shocked at the tip, with some saying they didn't even know the filter needed cleaning.
Valgouin said: "I have to take my washer apart to get to it. Pretty sure a lot of people don’t know this for that reason, it’s rarely that obvious."
BossupMelissa laughs: "Ummm what if you haven’t changed it in years."
SentimenatalJojo spoke for many when they said: "WHAT???!!! I’m today years old and just learning this!!! Wow!!"
