Warzone 2 Season 2 promises huge changes: 1v1 Gulag, plating and 3-Plate vests for all

Warzone 2 Season 2 is dropping in just a couple of weeks, and it looks like Infinity Ward has been listening to all of the bellyaching that's been going on; because this update is just what you've been asking for.

Call of Duty : Warzone 2 has had an interesting launch to say the least. Intended as an evolution of Warzone, it saw a number of features from the original dropped – with the intention of doing one better. But nobody likes change, especially when it leaves you worse off than when you started; we've seen the developer roll out updates to loadout drops and Buy Station after community backlash, reverting a number of gameplay features back to their original incarnation. And the Warzone 2 Season 2 update is set to smooth over even more ruffled feathers.

The upcoming season goes live on Wednesday, February 15, and Infinity Ward has shared a rundown of the Season 2 changes the Call of Duty blog so we know what we're in for. The most notable highlights include a return to the 1v1 Gulag of yore, with the overtime mechanic from the original Warzone – the Domination-style flag control point. The Jailer has been unceremoniously let go; and good riddance.

Another thing we're glad to see the back of is the 3-Plate vest in battle royale loot. Instead, everyone starts the match with a 3-Plate vest. You can dive into an overview of the Warzone 2 Season 2 update below.

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: the Gulag

The Gulag will revert to a 1v1 shootout in Warzone 2 Season 2, with the AI Jailor also being removed in favour of the original Warzone's overtime mechanic. For Season 2, the Gulag will take place on the same map, but Infinity Ward says it is working on a dedicated 1v1 map for future seasons.

There will also be updated weapon pools, including assault rifles, submachine guns and light machine guns, as well as a bigger cash reward for victorious players! But, shotguns have been removed from the Gulag altogether.

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: movement

3-Plate Vests for everyone in Warzone 2, woohoo!

All players will start with a 3-Plate Vest and varying vest sizes will no longer exist. Also, players will be able to burst through doors whilst plating, and although you still won't be able to sprint and plate up, the movement speed whilst plating has been increased.

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: Buy Stations and cash economy

Buy Stations will be easier to access in Warzone 2 Season 2, with more locations added. Spawn locations will be static and Loadout Drop Markers will have unlimited stock at Buy Stations. But, Infinity Ward neglected to mention whether killstreaks such as UAVs will still have limited stock.

Although there will be a slight reduction to cash rewards when completing contracts, the lowest value of cash you can pick up around Al Mazrah has increased from $100 to $500 at cash registers and $800 from ground loot.

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: loadouts and perks

Customisable perks are finally coming to Warzone 2 Season 2, but there will be a slightly reduced pool of available perks initially. Primary weapons will still be available at Buy Stations, but their price has been reduced (the amount hasn't been confirmed), whilst the price for loadout drops has also been reduced, but again, the new price hasn't been confirmed yet.

That's not all; there will be a second loadout public drop event for Season 2, with a drop happening on the first and fifth circles of each match!

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: –crashes and audio

As well as improvements to stability and performance, Infinity Ward acknowledged that some PC players have been experiencing an audio occlusion issue, but this has been addressed for Season 2, which should lead to players being able to more accurately pinpoint another using audio alone.

Warzone 2 Season 2 changes: UI changes

A number of UI/UX updates are coming for Warzone 2 Season 2 including:

  • Improved navigation and organization of Camo menu
  • More polished Social tab, including improved channel swapping and player muting
  • New “My Bundles” screen
  • Quick equip items from Battlepass, My Bundles, and Store
  • Reticle previews in Store and Gunsmith
  • Improved clarity of attachment blocking logic in Gunsmith
  • Improved After Action Report with audio
  • Play Again feature in Battle Royale
