Warzone 2 DMZ wipe will see player progress lost when Season 2 drops

Warzone 2’s next big update is still a couple of weeks away, but plans to wipe DMZ player progress in the Season 2 update isn't going down well.

The patch notes for Season 2 of Warzone 2 were shared last week, and Infinity Ward appears to have heard player complaints because yet more features are making a comeback to the game. 1v1 Gulag is among them, and there'll be 3-Plate Vests for all! But the community also noticed an upcoming change to Warzone 2's DMZ mode that will see player progress wiped upon the arrival of the upcoming Season 2.

DMZ mode is getting some much-needed changes, like a new Exclusion Zone, and a nerf to the overpowered enemy AI, which is good news. But the apparent price to pay is a DMZ wipe that sees a "refresh" of Faction mission progress, and an inventory reset – including Contraband and Keys. And this is all set to go live in Warzone 2 Season 2 on Wednesday, February 15.

Wipeout

DMZ players quickly took to social media to express their disappointment with the news. The disgruntled playerbase includes popular Call of Duty streamer Marksman who took to Twitter to say that the Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ wipe “doesn’t quite make sense”. They added that they won't be redoing all of the missions again, and are subsequently 'probably done with DMZ'.

Elsewhere, on Reddit, Warzone 2 players debated the move. Some have commented that the DMZ wipe bears some similarity to Escape from Tarkov, which also resets progress regularly. A poster in the thread said “Tarkov resets and they are trying to copy that to an extent” while claiming “there’s only so much DMZ has to offer without resetting.”

The comparison holds some waters, but ultimately, Escape from Tarkov has more to work towards with players having hideouts – something that's absent from Warzone 2's DMZ. One Redditor chimed in on their Tarkov experience, saying, "I'm getting better with every wipe, by how much better I make my hideout." They say that sprucing up their hideout is their 'purpose' in the game, and while they 'love Warzone 2's DMZ' it's become a little stale now that all of their guns are maxed out as there's no progress to work towards.

Another concern that popped up over the Warzone 2 Season 2 DMZ wipe was the possible loss of insured weapon slots, that lets you keep weapons even if you die during a DMZ run. Thankfully, in the days since the Season 2 patch notes were released, Infinity Ward has confirmed that this won't be the case, saying that "Insured Weapon slots will not reset" with Season 2.

Whether this is a permanent feature of Warzone 2 that'll see DMZ progress wiped seasonally, or a one-time event that's met with uproar and quickly shelved – like a handful of other Warzone 2 features – we don't know. But there's only a couple of weeks left before we see how it pans out, so buckle up!
