Warriors vs. Kings: Andrew Wiggins notches 17 points off bench in first game back

With under seven minutes remaining in the first quarter, Andrew Wiggins made his long-awaited return to the Golden State Warriors rotation off the bench in Game 1 of the opening round series against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday.

Wiggins checked in for Donte DiVincenzo with 6:21 on the clock in the first quarter and immediately made a difference on the defensive end of the floor. Wiggins swiped a block at the rim on a Davion Mitchell drive to the bucket.

The former All-Star guard got on the board for the first time since February with 3:29 left in the first quarter with a pull-up jumper.

Wiggins went on to score 17 points off the bench on 7-of-16 shooting from the field with three boards and an assist in 28 minutes. Wiggins struggled with his 3-point jumper, shooting 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. With the Warriors trailing by a point with just seconds remaining, Wiggins missed an open 3-pointer that could’ve potentially served as the game-winner.

While he couldn’t find his jumper, Wiggins’ presence was felt on the defensive end of the floor with a game-high four blocks.

Wiggins and the Warriors will be back on the floor for Game 2 against the Kings in Sacramento on Monday at 7 p.m. PT.
