Warriors’ Steph Curry Was Asked if He’d Ever Consider Presidential Bid

Presenting the NBA’s all-time three-point leader and… president of the United States?

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is already a Hall of Fame shoo-in whose jersey will hang in the rafters at Chase Center long after he retires. His legendary basketball exploits aside, Curry recently was asked on CBS Mornings whether he might consider running for president at some point in the future.

“Maybe,” the 10-time NBA All-Star said.

Curry elaborated, “I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can, so if that’s the way to do it, then—I’m not going to say the presidency—but if politics is the way that you can create meaningful change … [I’m not ruling it out.]”

When CBS News’s Jericka Duncan suggested that 2028 might be a feasible year to launch his campaign, Curry chuckled and said, “Not that soon.”

Off the court, the Warriors superstar has juggled a variety of feats from co-founding the Oakland-based Eat.Learn.Play charitable foundation to releasing his second children’s book, I Am Extraordinary. Back in 2020, Curry also participated in Black Lives Matter protests in the Bay Area and was an outspoken advocate for racial justice and equality.

During the All-Star break, the 35-year-old Curry stated that he has no intentions to retire in the near future, putting any potential political aspirations on the backburner for now.

More immediately, Curry is dealing with a sprained ankle suffered Thursday against the Chicago Bulls. The Warriors announced Tuesday that he’s been cleared to resume on-court activities, and he could return to game action as soon as Saturday at the Los Angeles Lakers.
