Warriors sending James Wiseman to G League Santa Cruz

After their win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, the Golden State Warriors are set to hit the road for a primetime matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. However, one member of the team will be on his way to Santa Cruz.

Following Monday’s victory over the Spurs, Steve Kerr announced former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman is being sent to Golden State’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. According to Kerr, the Warriors plan to keep Wiseman with the G League for an “extended period.”

He’s going to go to Santa Cruz tomorrow. We will keep him there for an extended period to get really good practice time and some games. It’s not going to be one game and bring him back. We want to give him maybe 10 straight days, something like that. Come back. We all know things happen in this league. He’s going to find his way back to the rotation at some point, but the best thing for him is to play a lot of minutes and get a lot of reps.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will host the South Bay Lakers on Saturday before traveling to Utah for a back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday of next week against the Salt Lake City Stars.

After playing in 10 consecutive contests to start the season, including double-figure minutes in seven games, Wiseman didn’t record a minute off the bench in three straight games.

On Monday, Wiseman played nine minutes off the bench in Golden State’s 37-point blowout over San Antonio, recording two points, two assists and two rebounds.

In 11 games, Wiseman is averaging 6.8 points on 58.8% shooting from the field with 3.8 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game.
