Warriors rumored to have interest in 27-year-old forward

The Golden State Warriors find themselves looking to snap out of a slump. Slow starts from Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul have compounded Golden State’s struggles. Draymond Green‘s inconsistent availability has also hit the team hard. There is also a valid question regarding the balance of Steve Kerr‘s roster; it’s primarily split between aging veterans and young prospects.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Warriors could seek to add a fresh face to the rotation between now and the Feb. 8 trade deadline. One player the franchise has been keeping tabs on is John Konchar of the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Reserve forward John Konchar is also a candidate to be dealt before the February trade deadline,” Scotto wrote. “The Celtics, Warriors, and Lakers are among the teams who’ve kept tabs on Konchar’s situation from afar, HoopsHype has learned.”

Konchar, 27, is in his fifth season with the Grizzlies. He has made 219 regular-season appearances for the struggling Western Conference team, averaging 4.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in his career, with shooting averages of 47.6% from the field and 37.1% from 3-point range.

Konchar is the type of player that would slot in well with the Warriors. He can stretch the floor, score on the interior, defend at a reliable level, and wouldn’t expect a significant role within the rotation. Furthermore, it’s unlikely a trade for the backup forward would cost much in the way of assets.

If the Warriors are serious about improving their depth and versatility, it wouldn’t be much of a shock to see them pursue Konchar. Whether they’re able to prise him away from the Grizzlies will be a different story.
