Warriors planned trade package for Paul George revealed

The Golden State Warriors were reportedly interested in trading for Paul Geroge before he declined his player option on Saturday (June 29.) Golden State needed George to opt into the final year of his deal if they were going to acquire him via opt-in and trade, as such, their chances of landing the All-Star forward are now over.

Nevertheless, The Atheltic’s Tim Kawakami has reported that Golden State was willing to give the LA Clippers multiple players to pick from in their negotiations. Chris Paul, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and Andrew Wiggins all floated as potential makeweights in the deal, although the Warriors wouldn’t have parted with all of the players in any deal.

“Any possible PG13 trade between the Warriors and Clippers was always going to be complicated, but Warriors executives thought they’d solved the puzzle,” Kawakami reported. “From what I’ve heard, some combination (but definitely not all) of Wiggins, CP3, Jonathan Kuminga or Moses Moody plus one future first-round pick were put into discussions with the Clippers.”

After missing out on George, the Warriors must now pivot as they continue to search for ways to improve a roster that failed to make the playoffs last season. Top of their to-do list will be deciding how to approach Klay Thompson’s unrestricted free agency and whether they want to retain his services moving forward.

Still, it’s clear that Golden State is willing to make the necessary moves to put the franchise back in the championship picture. As such, it’s going to be an interesting summer for the Warriors and their fanbase.
