Although the Golden State Warriors couldn’t slow down Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks enough to steal a win on the road, there was one positive to take away from Friday night’s 121-110 loss.
For the first time since returning from his extended injury absence, Klay Thompson played 40 minutes for the Warriors. After he made his long-awaited return to the court, Thompson was initially on a minutes restriction. Prior to Friday’s contest, the 32-year-old guard only played over 35 minutes one time this season.
After the game, Thompson called his 40 minutes of action a “huge milestone.”

On the way to playing 40 minutes, Thompson caught fire. The five-time All-Star dropped a game-high 37 points on 14-of-26 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, three assists and a block.
Thompson heated up from downtown in signature Splash Brothers fashion. Thompson drilled a season-high nine triples on 16 attempts from beyond the arc. In 27 games since returning from injury, Thompson has hit five or more 3-pointers in six different contests.
