Warriors HC Steve Kerr addresses recent late-game struggles

The Golden State Warriors are still trying to find their way this season following the 2022 championship campaign. The team’s core remains Intact from a season ago, but the identity of being clutch and winning the close games has disappeared halfway through this season.

Sunday’s loss to the Kevin Durant-less Brooklyn Nets at home continued to raise flags about the Warriors’ late-game execution. The loss last Thursday to the Boston Celtics in overtime was filled with noticeable miscues from the core group that has secured four championships leaving head coach Steve Kerr with many questions.

Kerr spoke with reporters on Tuesday about his team’s late-game struggles and the remedy to fix them as they fight for playoff contention in the crowded Western Conference.

Chemistry is fine; our guys get along great. We have really good people in that locker room, but the execution isn’t happening. I think there is some Hero ball. I think guys, you know, want to make a big shot. But I don’t think it’s necessarily 100% driven by the want for glory.

I think it’s more lack of execution; it’s more just we’ve got to be reminded, and we’ve got to practice our late game ways of getting better shots, and so we had a good practice today, and I think that’ll help, but you know, we’ve had probably seven or eight games this year that we feel like we should have won, and only a couple of where we won that we should have lost and that gap is the difference between you know, being the three seed and being 10th Where we are right now so the very small margin for error, and we’ve got to get better on those margins.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday night against the red-hot Memphis Grizzlies, looking to gain some ground in the conference standings.
