Warriors 3 goals: Draymond Green needs to stay out of the limelight

In the latest edition of Warriors Wire’s three-goals series, we will look at three things Draymond Green could potentially implement in the upcoming season. At 33, the veteran forward is unlikely to take a big jump in terms of overall skillset. As such, we will be focusing on more off-court adjustments Green could make. Last season, Green struggled to find his voice in the locker room following a preseason altercation with Jordan Poole.

However, the Golden State Warriors have a new-look team for the upcoming season and veteran talent across the floor, all of whom will dream of a championship run. Golden State will need Green to be back to his vocal best if they want any chance of making a big impact in the upcoming season, and that means having the veteran available on the court.

Green can sometimes find himself in the limelight. The veteran’s podcast has been a big topic of discussion within the fanbase, as has his well-documented friendship with LeBron James. Yet, the truth is, as long as Green is leading by example, playing elite-level defense, and contributing to winning, the Warriors stand a chance of success.

Let’s take a look at three things Green could look to implement in the new season.

Stay out of the limelight

Whether getting into a social media dispute with fans, media, or other players or falling out with someone on the roster, Green is at his best in a harmonious situation. The veteran forward needs to focus on getting the Warriors back to the NBA Finals and will need to let certain things slide as the season wears on.

Golden State is a better team when Green is locked in. Any headlines or arguments will only serve to distract the outspoken forward from being at his best – as we saw last season.

Gel with Chris Paul

Chris Paul and Green have a long history. The two veterans have had multiple battles with each other and have had harsh words about each other over the years. Now, Paul and Green will be teammates and working together to try and bring success to the Warriors franchise.

As two of the bigger voices within the locker room, Green and Paul will need to ensure they gel together – both on and off the court. Perhaps that’s why the veteran duo have worked out together recently. If two of the bigger personalities on the roster can make things work, then it will help the rest of the team get on the same page and start pulling the same direction.

Earn an All-Star selection

If Green can stay out of the limelight, gel with Paul, and focus on playing his game at a high level, there’s no reason he can’t make his fifth All-Star selection in the upcoming season. Green last made an All-Star team during the 2021-22 season.

Interestingly, in three of the four seasons Green has been named an All-Star, the Warriors have won a championship. As such, the veteran forward should view another selection as a good omen for his team’s chances of success.
