A 28-year-old man accused of murdering a 31-year-old woman in the Kimberley town of Kununurra will defend the charge in Western Australia's Supreme Court.
Warrick Walkerbear appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning via video link from Hakea Prison.
He pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Waterloo, as she is known for cultural reasons, in October 2021.
Her body was discovered in bushland along the town's eastern fringe about two weeks after she was last seen alive.
The discovery came after police appealed for public help to find her, saying her disappearance was out of character.
Her death continues to have a profound impact on the local Indigenous community.
Mr Walkerbear was arrested shortly after Ms Waterloo's death.
Police allege he was with Ms Waterloo when she was last seen alive.
So far, few details about the case have been discussed in court.
Mr Walkerbear was remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court in March, when a trial date may be set.
