Warrenpoint man killed in tragic incident in car park was 'extremely talented'

A Co Down man who died in a tragic incident earlier this week has been hailed as an 'extremely talented and determined worker'.

Chef Loughlin Maginn died on Wednesday afternoon, July 1 following a tragic incident at a car park on Downpatrick Street in Rathfriland.

Police believe he died after he became trapped under his car when it rolled a short distance after being parked shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Seth Linder, Owner of the Rostrevor Inn, where Loughlin worked for two years, said he was 'a very talented and dedicated chef'.

He told Belfast Live: "He was always determined to do the best he possibly could.

"Loughie arrived here with his colleague and friend Bart to take over our kitchen a few months after we opened and he was here for over two years.

"He was part of the family here and was a valued friend to staff and customers alike.

"Even though we were sorry to see him go we were delighted he was following his dream to run his own business and was making such a success of it.

"We are all devastated by this tragic news and are thinking of his family at this terrible time. He will be greatly missed."

Mr Maginn also previously worked at Fergusons Bar & Bistro in Dundalk, who say he built a 'renowned reputation'.

A Facebook post said: "We extend our heartfelt condolences to his partner Keighra, daughter Megan, Mrs Maginn, brothers, sister and wider family circle.

"You will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. You'll be forever in our thoughts."

Police ask anyone that witnessed the incident or who may have captured dash-cam footage to contact them in Lurgan or the Collision Investigation Unit at Sprucefield on 101 quoting reference number 763 01/07/20.
