A Co Derry coastguard has warned pet owners to keep their dogs securely on a lead near cliffs following a tragic incident at the weekend.
Coleraine Coastguard said that three local teams were tasked to a scene on Sunday morning after it had been reported a dog had fallen from cliffs close to the Causeway Hotel at the Giant's Causeway.
The dog was located but sadly the family pet had died from injuries sustained in the accident, and was reported to have passed away by a crew member from the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat team.
