Warning to one area of Merseyside after bin scam

A warning has been issued to people living in one part of Merseyside following a scam.

Sefton Council sent out a warning to those living in the borough after it was made aware of people knocking on residents' doors claiming if they wanted their bins emptied they would need to pay them £25. The council confirmed it is a scam and the people are not part of the local authority.

The reports came from Litherland yesterday (July 20), with bins being collected in line with the normal schedule for each area. The council took to social media to warn people about the newfound scam.

The post said: "We’ve had reports of people calling at homes in Sefton saying if you want your green bins emptying today, they need to pay them £25. It's a scam - these people are not from the Council. Bins are being collected in line with normal schedules."

Bins are a contentious topic up and down Sefton following delays earlier in the year and it was reported staff were being sourced from surrounding local authorities to help with weekend collections. Although the council did not deny this happening, the service looks as though it is back to normal despite weeks of delays leading to mounting rubbish.
