Warning to hayfever sufferers as remedy shortage hits United Kingdom

A supply shortage of tablets is coinciding with a rise in hayfever symptoms in the UK.

Staple ingredients for remedies are running low while forecasters warn of increasing pollen levels.

Boots have revealed that remedy ingredients for the ailment's recipe are currently running low, stating that four products have been affected by low supply numbers. This comes ahead of a spike in pollen levels nationwide, reports Birmingham Live.

"There are a very small number of lines that are currently out of stock due to a current, industry-wide shortage of the active ingredient," a Boots spokesperson said. "However, we are expecting this to be resolved soon and new deliveries are expected in the coming weeks."

Met Office meteorologist, Sarah Kent, has revealed that pollen levels will be high across much of the UK on Monday and Tuesday and said it's mainly tree pollen but grass season is just starting. She added: “You may start noticing symptoms more if you're sensitive to grass pollen.”

Meteorologist Richard Miles also added that temperatures could reach the mid-20s in London and the South East on Monday - above average for early May.

"Get your barbecuing done if you're in the South, that's going to be your last chance for a couple of days," he said.

He continued: "People should be sensible, using sunscreen, but the majority of people today are not going to see blazing sunshine. More like sunny breaks than extended clear skies. You should always take precautions for the effects of ultraviolet, you can still get it even through hazy and cloudy conditions."
