Warning sent to parents after child approached by stranger near primary school

A warning has been issued to parents after a school pupil in Oldham was approached by a man outside a pub offering them a lift to school.

An email sent to parents and carers of pupils at Delph Primary School explained that a pupil was while walking to school by Delph Lane, near to the White Lion pub, on Wednesday morning (July 13) when a man in a red car stopped and approached them.

The man in the car, who is thought to be aged between 40 and 50, then asked the pupil if they wanted to be dropped off at school. The pupil refused and ran to school.

The school asked people to ‘be vigilant’ and told parents to remind their children about 'stranger danger'. The man was reported as being bald and with a beard.

The school’s Safeguarding Alert message said: “ We have been notified of an incident this morning (Wednesday July 13) involving an older KS2 pupil. The pupil was walking to school down the hill on Delph Lane at approximately 8.15am, close to the White Lion pub when a man in a red car came alongside.

“The man in the car spoke to the child and offered to drop the child off at school. The pupil refused and ran up to school. The man was described as having no hair, a beard and was maybe 40 or 50 years old.

“Please be vigilant and continue to remind your child about Stranger Danger.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson told the M.E.N they had not received any reports relating to the incident.
