Residents in Dublin 15 have been warned to be "extra vigilant" following a spike in burglaries recently.
A series of break-ins have been reported to gardai in the area over the past 10 days. Locals are being urged to check that all doors are locked and ensure they have turned on their alarms.
Sinn Fein Councillor Angela Donnelly told Dublin Live that the thieves have gained access to a number of houses in the area by managing to remove windows from the front of the home. She also said that cars are being broken into and the handles on front doors are being tried to see if they have been left open.
"I spoke to residents and in one estate there was five or six instances in the last ten days of this," she said. "Yesterday, a guy caught a burglar in his porch with his car keys after gaining access to the home and stealing them.
"In one of the estates they're talking about doing patrols, taking an hour each and sitting in their cars with the lights on to try and deter people. It's really bad.
"The message to get across is to use your alarms. A lot of people have alarms that they don't use. Take every precaution, I'm just encouraging people to be more vigilant."
A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai are investigating a series of burglaries that have been reported in the Clonsilla area in recent days.
"Members of the public are encouraged to report any such incidents to their local Garda Station, and follow Garda Crime Prevention advice in relation to thefts and burglaries, per the following link: https://garda.ie/en/crime-prevention/securing-your-home/."
