The public has been warned about a new scam appearing on social media where fake profiles offer to sell tickets for shows and concerts.
The scam appears in the comments of posts looking for tickets for shows and has become more and more common in recent months. In many cases tickets for the show have not even gone on sale when the offers are made by the bogus accounts.
The comments have also popped up on posts about tickets that are free, with lines such as "I have tickets for sale, DM me" appearing underneath. The posts have appeared on many public pages for promoters and even on profiles where people are praising a show for being entertaining.

A warning popped up on the Updates Ireland Facebook page urging people to be vigilant about the scam. Many people then said that they had noticed the scam on the pages for major ticket companies including Ticketmaster.
One person warned: "They are always on Ticketmaster page and other singers I follow and none of them even live in Ireland always Africa or somewhere."
According to Citizens Advice: "t is always best to buy a ticket from the event’s official seller or from the venue. Be very careful buying tickets from unofficial sellers. Since 31 July 2021, it is illegal to sell tickets for live events, matches, and concerts for more than face-value. You could be fined up to €100,000 or imprisoned for up to 2 years if you sell tickets for live events above face value."
