A warning has been issued over a text scam which sees people offered discounted energy bill.
Many people have taken to social media to warn of the scam which appears to be from Gov.UK as the text reads: "GOV.UK: We have identified you as eligible for a discounted energy bill under the Energy Bills Support Scheme." It then takes you to a link where you enter your details before appearing to ask for bank details.
The text appears to be sent by a mobile number but some people fear it could appear "genuine" as they urge families to "ignore" the message. This appears to be another scam targeting those who are struggling amid the cost of living crisis as millions of households will find themselves in financial hardship.

Many have shared the scam on local social media pages urging others to "be aware". SDLP's Mark H Durkan took to social media to warn people of the scam text, BelfastLive reports. In a Facebook post, he said: "Folks please share, there is an Energy Bill text scam doing the rounds at the moment.
"Disgrace that fraudsters are preying on vulnerable people, many who are in desperate need amid the current costs crisis. Please tell friends and family to be vigilant. HMRC will never request personal information or financial details via text."
The ECHO previously reported on how the new Energy Price Guarantee will affect the amount you will pay to keep your house warm this winter. The "Energy Price Guarantee" - also referred to as the October Price Freeze - came about in response to the continued rise in the price of energy, which was threatening to overwhelm many household budgets this winter.
Under the scheme, which starts from October 1, a typical household will pay an average of £2,500 a year on their energy bills, frozen until 2024. This will mean some households could be left paying more than £2,500 for their annual bills if they use more than the average amount, while others may pay less.
