As covid cases are rising around Scotland, people are being urged to watch out for scam text messaging appearing to be related to track and trace and other covid measures.
This comes as experts have warned that due to the new sub-variants of Omicron, around one in 30 Scots are expected have the virus.
Trading Standards Scotland earlier warned: "Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, scammers have been keeping up to date with the latest developments. Now, with the launch of NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect service and the new Protect Scotland contact tracing app, consumers are being warned to be wary of fraudsters posing as contact tracers."
However, as of May 1, 2022, contact tracing is no longer being used in Scotland's response to Covid-19.

But people are still receiving very convincing texts appearing to be from Test and Protect.
The text may say something such as 'NHS: You can been is close contact with someone with the Omicron variant. Please order a text kit here' - and then supply a link.
In one instance, the sender was named 'Trace Alerts'.

When Test and Protect was being used, genuine contact tracers would first send you a text to let you know that you will receive a call from NHS Scotland.
NHS Scotland will not ask you for any money or try to sell you anything.
