Tesco and Morrisons have cut the size of their ready meals while Sainsbury's and Asda have put up their prices, according to new research. Every Tesco own-brand ready meal has been reduced in weight by 50g while prices have stayed the same - or in some cases have been put up, according to The Grocer.
Research using date from Assosia data shows Tesco ready mneals have swapped from 450g to 400g and from 800g to 750g. Despite shrinking in size, The Grocer givesTesco Sweet Potato Red Thai Curry & Jasmine Rice as one product that is more expensive - with 5p added to the ticket.
The data also shows Morrisons has swapped many of its 450g ready meals for 400g versions, while the prices of some have gone up from £2.75 to £3.49.
Sainsbury's and Asda own-brand ready meals have gone up in price around 25p each for some dishes.
The Grocer this week reported that products such as Fairy, Bold and Lenor as well as Dove Beauty Bar packs have been reduced in size, while prices have gone up. Mars has also reduced the size of its Maltesers sharing bags and Twix multipacks and Upfield has shrunk packs of Flora, Bertolli and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter. Unilever has reduced the size of Magnum multipacks.
