Destiny 2 finally decided that the final reset before the Witch Queen was the time to debut the final mission of the season, even though it will be deleted forever in seven days when all seasonal content is wiped. But it’s an actual, full mission, not just a cutscene, and you should play it this week before it goes away.
If you can, that is.
Before we get into spoiler territory, a few actual warnings. Some people are getting bugs in the mission and cannot finish it, with it glitching out at a few points. So far the only advice I’ve heard is to take your time and not try to run too far ahead when given the opportunity. I have also heard no one can skip the cutscene or it may screw up the mission for everyone.
Past that, I’ve encountered a second bug, where this is supposed to be the final audio log of the season in the HELM, but it’s not showing up, and that means the attached lore page cannot unlock either, which is too bad, as it could answer some lingering questions after this mission.
Okay, spoiler time about the mission and its ending.
The mission involves a shorter variant of a normal Astral run. You start out in the Blind Well and must kill enemies while holding plates. Then you’ll be transported to the Astral area and teleported to the bridge that has been getting built all season. This is the part where you should try not to rush ahead (especially Eager Edge jumping) and just take enemies as they come.
Once inside, Saint pops a bubble as we have to protect the Techeuns doing the ceremony. This results in a triple(!) boss fight against the two Blind Well bosses who have their respective mechanics again, plus champions and yellow bars, plus that one Hive Knight we have killed roughly four times at this point. Well, here’s a fifth.
At the end, the crystal is cracked and Mara is there waiting to knife her in the face(?), but Savathun is gone, replaced by Osiris’s body in the crystal. Is this finally the real Osiris? Is he alive? What exactly just happened here? That’s left up in the air, but my guess is given that Osiris was not confirmed by dead in this scene, even if he’s not moving, it seems like Savathun may have literally just kept her deal, and traded Osiris for her worm. It was us that was going to try to betray her. Presumably she’s escaped to her Throne World, hence the events of the Witch Queen, but nothing in this mission or scene explains how she gets the light, which is meant to be a mystery of the expansion.
So, a good mission, I just can’t believe it’s only live for a week. Hopefully these bugs get ironed out, and I am going to try to hunt down those missing lore bits. Stay tuned.
