Children have been spotted walking on a frozen pond just days after three youngsters died in a tragic accident in England.
Reports have emerged of young people walking on frozen water at Dedridge Pond.
This week’s tragic events in Solihul are a reminder of the dangers of frozen water. Whether it's a river, pond, loch, canal or reservoir – frozen water should be avoided.
West Lothian Council has asked all parents, carers and guardians are also asked to ensure children are made aware of the dangers of playing on ice – both at this location and at all other areas where there is frozen water.
Schools have also issued GroupCall messages to parents to help make sure that pupils are given advice to stay off frozen water.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have also issued advice.
Watch Commander Paul Harvey said: “We would urge all parents, carers and guardians to follow the guidance and discuss with young people the advice of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service FRS which can be found via our website to help everyone stay safe during this cold period.”
Jim Jack, the council’s Head of Operational Services said: “We’d appeal to everyone to follow advice and stay off frozen ponds and water courses. The consequences of falling through ice can be absolutely tragic.”
