A charity music event where attendees gain entry by donating warm clothes for the homeless is returning this winter.

Warmth for the Streets, an initiative set up by DJ and actor Esther Ajumobi, will return on January 15 at Camden Assembly in north London.

Audience members will be asked to bring along at least one item of warm clothing — hats, gloves, socks, neck scarves, thermal tops and bottoms, and coats are recommended, with tents and duvets also accepted — before enjoying the daytime party, which runs from midday to 6pm.

Tickets will also be required, costing £5 each, with all proceeds going to housing and homelessness charity Shelter.

Kiss FM’s Justin Wilkes will headline with a DJ set, with more artists set to be added to the line-up soon.

"Warmth for the Streets is a fantastic project which mobilises quickly,” said Wilkes. “Those in need receive the help within hours of donation."

The annual event, which has been running since 2016, is also recruiting volunteers to hand out the donations to those experiencing homelessness. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Warmth for the Streets on warmthforthestreetsuk@gmail.com.

Ajumobi began helping the homeless in her early twenties, when she started a mobile soup kitchen, handing out jollof rice on Christmas Eve to people on the streets around her grandmother’s house in central London.

Warmth for the Streets grew from that, and has hosted DJs, musicians, comedians and poets in recent years.
