Fans of co-op games can hardly avoid Warhammer 40,000 Darktide: The first-person shooter is currently in Early Access beta and allows players to carry out the will of the God-Emperor as part of an imperial criminal battalion – bloody and dangerous work.
This guide will show you the best weapons in Warhammer 40,000 Darktide to fight the Nurgle heretics. May the God-Emperor bless this selection – and your ravaged bodies!
Warhammer 40,000 Darktide: Best Ranged Weapons

Ranged weapons are especially important in Warhammer 40,000 Darktide for taking out elite enemies from a distance and working the weak points of bosses or other armored enemies. Each weapon has limited ammo capacity, so use your supplies sparingly and rely on ranged combat only when necessary. Spray and pray – though sounding very appropriate for the world of 40k – is not the done thing here.
Kantrael MG Infantry Lasgun
The standard weapon of the Imperial Guard, a semi-automatic laser rifle is an outstanding choice, especially against single targets. Stay under the protection of your team to use this weapon to wipe out high-ranking enemies from a long distance before they even become a threat to your squad. Picking off ranged enemies should also be a priority for players with this weapon, as they can really hurt your melee-focused friends if left alone. Against hordes, however, you should draw your melee weapon.
Ius Mk. II Shredder Autopistol
This fully automatic submachine gun is suitable for a more mobile play style. Thanks to its large magazines and high rate of fire, you’ll blow away even large hordes with it without getting into trouble. However, this shooting iron struggles against elite targets that have armor. Leave such enemies to the snipers with the lasgun and protect them from the weaker mutants while they take out high-ranking enemies.
Lawbringer Mk. IV Combat Shotgun
This shotgun is an excellent compromise between the ability to deal high damage to single targets or hordes. The surprisingly high rate of fire and spread make this shotgun strong against waves of enemies. If you get close enough, the damage against single targets is also enormous. The big weakness: reloading takes a long time.
Warhammer 40,000 Darktide: Best Melee Weapons

Melee weapons have a firm place in Warhammer 40,000 Darktide: you’ll ideally shred hordes of light enemies with your melee weapon, saving ammo for the really tough targets – or elite enemies like the suicide bomber, who you really don’t want to face in melee. Plus, it’s often easier to switch to the melee weapon than to reload guns like the Lawbringer Mk. IV Combat Shotgun in the heat of battle. Just don’t get tunnel vision: faced with ranged enemies, switch to your gun if possible, as it’s costly to charge them. Otherwise, alert your teammates with ranged capabilities and seek cover for the time being.
Cadia Mk. IV Assault Chainsword
Nothing screams Warhammer 40,000 more than chainswords. This good piece is very versatile: it cuts through waves of enemies thanks to its area damage, while the special attack can eat through armor. So, in a pinch, this weapon can be used even against single targets quite effectively.
Crucis Mk. II Thunder Hammer
It’s a similar story with this hammer: the horizontal swing of the charged attack is perfect for giving you a bit of space against an onrushing heretic horde. The special attack, on the other hand, takes advantage of the battery attached to the hammer to charge it with electricity and deal high damage to single targets – a shocking experience, one might say.
Catachan Mk. I Devil’s Claw Sword
This sword is not particularly strong against armored targets, but is most suitable for fighting hordes. Thanks to the area cleave damage this blade deals and the fairly fast attacks, you’ll easily cut through Nurgle’s lesser followers with it.
Your survival depends on the combination of weapons and other equipment in your own arsenal, as well as in the arsenal of your entire squad: The stats and bonuses of individual items and weapons can completely change against which targets you are especially effective, so always keep an eye on those bonuses and coordinate with your strike team to form a well-rounded party.
