A seafood warehouse worker was crushed to death by a lift in a freak accident on his birthday.
Julio Armando Buelvas Salinas was coming to the end of his shift and looking forward to celebrating with his family and friends when he was killed.
The 26-year-old logistics assistant was moving stock into a refrigerated room when an elevator used to ferry products and work tools fell on him.
It is understood he had been using the lift himself to travel between floors.
His colleagues rushed to help but it was too late, with the young man having reportedly died instantly.
When police arrived on the scene at the Comerpes SA processing building in Cartagena, Columbia, on Friday (April 14), Julio's body was still trapped between the lift and the floor.
His family were said to be waiting at his home with a birthday cake, his favourite dinner and music when officers informed them of the tragedy.
They quickly came down to the scene in the El Bosque area from the city's Boston district where Julio lived.
Comerpes SA is yet to release an official statement following the accident.
Further details of the incident remain unclear, however El Universal reports it is believed a hook holding the lift broke as Julio passed underneath.
He had worked for the company since February 2020 and previously studied at the Perpetuo Socorro Institution in El Líbano.
