Wanted man on roof 'demands double pepperoni pizza' in police standoff

A wanted man who climbed onto a roof after a police chase reportedly demanded a pepperoni pizza during the standoff.

After a chase with Merseyside Police, two men ended up on the roof of a home on Walton Breck Road, in Anfield, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, August 3. Patrols attended after one of the men has dropped white and brown rocks, believed to be drugs.

One man came down from the roof and was arrested by officers on suspicion of possession of Class A and B drugs. The second man, who is wanted by police, remained on the roof for the rest of the evening.

Police placed a cordon on Walton Breck Road between Sleepers Hill and Everton Valley, before requesting help from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service. The man was seen walking along a number of roofs on Walton Breck Road, and at one point almost slipped and fell.

The man also shouted the crowds of people who gathered on Sleepers Hill and Paley Close "I want to speak to my solicitor". When a woman responded to ask what the number was, he said "I have no idea".

One eyewitness said the man asked for a double pepperoni pizza as he sat perched on the chimney of one of the homes. He kept mentioning to friends on the ground he has plenty of cigarettes and would not be coming down.

Police negotiators were at the scene and in constant talks with the man.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Emergency services are in attendance in Anfield this evening, Wednesday 3 August. At around 6.30pm we received a report that a wanted man had been sighted with another man in the Sleepers Hill area.

"Patrols attended and the men were located on the roof of a property on Walton Breck Road. It was reported that one of the males had discarded white and brown rocks (suspected drugs). One of men came down from the roof, was detained by police and arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and B drugs.

"He will be taken into custody and questioned by police. The second man remains on the roof and officers are at scene attempting to engage with him."
