The White Lotus star Walton Goggins has added fuel to the rumour that he’s beefing with his co-star Aimee Lou Wood after praising a skit on Saturday Night Live (SNL) which made fun of Wood’s appearance.
It’s been a wild ride for fans of The White Lotus, Goggins and Wood.
Firstly, fans were swooning over Goggin’s heartfelt tribute to Wood on Instagram. BUT THEN things took a dramatic turn when eagle-eyed fans noticed that the pair had unfollowed each other on IG, hypothesising that Goggins and Wood, who play Rick and Chelsea in the hit HBO series, have beef.
Now, another online mishap from Goggins has made it all worse.
Over the weekend, comedy sketch show SNL aired a parody skit called The White POTUS, which featured Donald Trump and a bunch of American political figures in similar scenarios to the characters of The White Lotus season three. However, the sketch also featured SNL cast member Sarah Sherman portraying Wood’s character Chelsea whilst wearing garish teeth prosthetics and using a bad Mancunian accent.
Fans quickly noticed that the portrayal of Chelsea was the only character in the skit which wasn’t based on a political figure, and felt that it was a cheap shot at Wood’s appearance.
While Wood took to Instagram to call out SNL for its “mean” and “unfunny” sketch, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Goggins had liked the post and left a now-deleted comment on Instagram.
According to Page Six, the 53-year-old commented, “Hahahahahhahaha Amazzzingggg” on the post shared by SNL, before sharing the clip to his Instagram Stories.
“Smashing! Jon… I knew I was miscast,” he captioned the clip, referring to Jon Hamm playing the Rick-inspired Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Although Goggins made the comment and shared the post directly after the episode finished — presumably before he knew how Wood felt about it — fans quickly took it as yet another sign that the on-screen lovers were butting heads.
The feud rumours initially kicked off on Reddit after fans noticed that Goggins posted a tribute to his fellow White Lotus cast, tagging everyone except for Wood.
Then, White Lotus daddy Jason Isaacs made it all worse by telling the press that the White Lotus set was full of BTS drama.
“Some people got very close, there were friendships that were made and friendships that were lost,” he said.
JUICY!!!!
We might never know what really went down, but god, I hope someone just comes out and says it.
