A man remains behind bars, accused of shooting two people at Gateshead last week - allegedly intending to murder one of them.
Officers from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crimes Squad arrested 31-year-old Emmett Sheard at Wallsend on Monday afternoon.
It came days after emergency crews were called to Cassia Crescent at Gateshead in the early hours of September 21 following reports of shots fired.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a 42-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.
They were treated by paramedics before they were both taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
During a search of the property where Mr Sheard was found on Monday, investigators allegedly discovered two firearms, including a single-barrel rifle, which was seized for examination.
The Whitebridge man was taken to Newcastle police station and charged with one count each of shooting with intent to murder, possessing an unauthorised firearm, using an unauthorised firearm, and discharging a firearm intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
He remained in custody before he faced Newcastle local court on Tuesday morning.
According to court documents, Mr Sheard is accused using a single-barrel rifle to shoot the man with intent to murder him, and of leaving the woman with a gunshot wound to her upper thigh.
Mr Sheard did not apply for bail - and if was formally refused - as he sat in the dock in a white tracksuit during his brief appearance before Magistrate Ian Cheetham on Tuesday.
He will face court again on November 15.
Police said in a statement their investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
