Bristol is now home to the first ever Wallace & Gromit escape room located in the city centre. Locked In A Room based in Millennium Square claims to be the largest escape room in the UK, with 11 rooms on site - and it is soon to expand to 13.
The Wallace & Gromit-themed escape room 'A Grand Way Out' is the first of its kind that has been co-created with Bristol-based animation studio, Aardman. The Bristol-based stop-motion filmmakers are known all over the world for creating Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Chicken Run and Morph.
Oliver Pfaff, Director of Locked In A Room said: "I decided to approach Aardman about the collaboration after watching A Grand Day Out with my son and thought it would be a great fit in Bristol. Aardman seemed very receptive to the idea and since that day we have worked tirelessly to create a fantastic nostalgic experience right in the heart of Bristol, suitable for everyone, from lifelong fans to those with little knowledge of the series (apparently they do exist!). It's been an all-round pleasure for our team to work on."

Prior to opening, Aardman sent 40 of their staff down to play test the room before inviting the public.
'A Grand Way Out' escape room, which first launched in December, was created in collaboration with the studio and focuses on a mix of the films A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave to encompass many nostalgic moments from the Aardman series. The inside of the escape room is being kept top secret, as well as Locked In A Room's themed bespoke waiting area drawn by Aardman animators and painted by local scenic artists.
The synopsis of the escape room reads: "With little over an hour until the village science fete, and eager to show off his new invention, Wallace has forgotten the code to his workshop. With the help of Gromit, players will don the Memory-O-Matic helmet and take a trip down memory lane to help him remember it – before it’s too late!"
It will soon have two more Wallace & Gromit rooms expected to open on-site in March for larger teams to compete head-to-head in identical rooms. The Bristol-based company first launched in 2015 and has since grown to several other locations in the South of England including Center Parcs, Exeter, Southampton and Milton Keynes.
