Wallace and Gromit 50p coins released by Royal Mint to mark 30-year anniversary

Three new coins have been created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of a popular children's film series.

The Royal Mint has released a range of 50p Wallace and Gromit coins, each with a design of the companions standing in front of their iconic rocket.

The coins will not be placed in circulation and will only be available to buy.

Prices range from £10 for a standard uncirculated coin, and go up to £980 for a Gold Proof coin, ManchesterEveningNews reports.

The coins have been so popular that they caused the official Royal Mint website to run slower.

Posting on Twitter, the Royal Mint told customers: "Due to high demand for the Wallace & Gromit 50p our website is running a little slower than usual, but camembert with us, we're working as hard as we can to get it back up and running! #30CrackingYears."

However, the issue was quickly resolved, with engineers quickly getting the site back up and running.

"Gouda news, our tech team have been working hard on our website and it's now back up and running. Thanks for your patience," wrote the Royal Mint.

The coins won't be going into circulation, so if you want one you'll have to buy one.
