The Wall Street Journal on Saturday demanded the immediate release of Evan Gershkovich, a Moscow-based correspondent who was arrested on suspicion of spying.
"Evan's case is a vicious affront to a free press, and should spur outrage in all free people and governments throughout the world, the newspaper said in a statement on Twitter.
The Wall Street Journal said in a statement emailed to Reuters on Thursday that it “vehemently denies” allegations of espionage against Gershkovich.
The correspondent was arrested by the FSB security service on suspicion of spying in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg.
“The Wall Street Journal vehemently denies the allegations from the FSB and seeks the immediate release of our trusted and dedicated reporter, Evan Gershkovich. We stand in solidarity with Evan and his family,” the newspaper said.
