Walker and Haaland start - Man City predicted XI vs Bayern Munich in Champions League

Manchester City will turn their attention back to the Champions League on Tuesday night when they host Bayern Munich in the quarter-final first leg.

Pep Guardiola's side have been in superb form in recent weeks and were victorious again at Southampton this weekend. Erling Haaland returned to the starting line-up after a groin injury to score twice with Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez also getting on the scoresheet.

While the performance against the Saints was impressive, City know that they will have to be at their best to stop a Bayern side who have seen Thomas Tuchel take charge in recent weeks. Ahead of the big game, MEN Sport has taken a look at how Guardiola is likely to set-up tomorrow.

Goalkeeper - Ederson

City's Brazilian 'keeper has the full confidence of his manager ahead of this Champions League tie and, at this stage of the campaign, he is unlikely to be replaced by Stefan Ortega. Ederson has had his fair share of critics this season but in Guardiola's eyes he is number one.

Defenders - Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake

When Walker replaced John Stones this weekend, City looked all the better for it and moved through the gears impressively. Guardiola has admitted that the English full-back cannot play in the inverted role that he has favoured recently but, against Bayern, it is hard to see him missing out.

The Catalan boss could opt for Rico Lewis instead should he wish to stick with the system but a match like this probably calls for experience. Elsewhere, the three other defenders choose themselves thanks to their sensational form.

Midfielders - Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne

City went with an overtly attacking formation on Saturday against a side that was destined to sit back. You would think against Bayern, the Blues will play slightly less risky to avoid being caught out.

Thus, I see them sticking with Gundogan in the centre so as to provide that much-needed balance. Rodri and De Bruyne meanwhile remain two of the first names on the teamsheet.

Forwards - Riyad Mahrez, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish

It is hard to argue that any of these players should be dropped due to how they have been performing. Grealish has been a phenomenon recently and showed his worth once more on the South Coast.

Haaland justified his return over Alvarez with two magnificent goals and should start if fit. Mahrez is the most likely of the three to be replaced but Guardiola will be unlikely to rock the boat too much.
