ITV's singing competition Walk The Line has been cancelled, it was confirmed this week at the Edinburgh TV Festival. Hosted by Bristol's Maya Jama the show saw five musical acts compete for the audience vote with the winner given the option of moving on to the next show and taking five new acts, or cash out.
ITV blocked out a week of telly for the new show when it debuted last year, but it failed to reach big numbers in the ratings. Featuring Gary Barlow, Alesha Dixon, Dawn French and Craig David on the judging panel the show was co-produced by Simon Cowell's company Syco.
ITV bosses did express they are still trying to find shows which work best when broadcast each night of the week, reports Radio Times. However, Maya Jama may have been unable to return to Walk The Line if it had gone ahead.

She has been hotly tipped to be the new host of Love Island, now Laura Whitmore has announced she is stepping down. With two series planned for next year, plus spending time in the US with her fiance, Ben Simmons, who plays basketball for the Brooklyn Nets, Maya might not have had time to fit in another weekly show alongside all her other committments.
Needless to say the cancellation of Walk The Line won't hold Maya Jama back from becoming the new Queen of Light Entertainment.
