Wales under-20s fell to a 29-25 defeat to their Italian counterparts in Treviso.
The match between the two young sides was a curtain raiser to the Six Nations clash between Warren Gatland's men and the Azzurri in Rome on Saturday afternoon which will likely decide the Wooden Spoon.
It was the young Italians who were celebrating at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo on Friday night.
The result was Wales' fourth defeat of the under-20 Six Nations this season and leaves them firmly rooted to the foot of the table with one game to go in France.
It was also the first time Wales under-20s had finished on the losing side in Italy, proving to be a desperately disappointing night.
A try by Alessandro Gesi and a penalty try put the Italians into the ascendancy, but Wales went in at half-time with the lead through scrum-half Archie Hughes and back-rower Luca De La Rua tries.
Winger Harri Houston scored another try for Wales after the break, but the Italians finished the stronger team and scores from Marcos Gallorini, Destiny Aminu and Alex Artuso ensured victory for the hosts.
Wales had previously lost 44-27 to Ireland, 18-17 in Scotland and 37-21 to England.
