Wales are set to leave Louis Rees-Zammit out of their squad for this weekend’s Six Nations meeting with England at Twickenham.
Scoring four tries on the way to a Six Nations title, Rees-Zammit was one of international rugby’s breakout stars last year, and was selected for the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa.
But the 21-year-old has had a slow start to this campaign, and was defensively exposed by Darcy Graham in the win over Scotland. With Alex Cuthbert making a solid return to Welsh colours and Josh Adams expected to return from injury, Rees-Zammit has been dropped.
Premiership-based Wales players have to return to their clubs when not selected by the national team, so Rees-Zammit is expected to be included in the Gloucester squad to face Leicester this weekend.
Both England and Wales will name their respective matchday 23s tomorrow.
Eddie Jones last night slimmed his squad to 25, with Joe Marchant and Joe Launchbury among the 10 players returning to their clubs for Premiership action this weekend.
That leaves the door open for Manu Tuilagi and Courtney Lawes to come in for their first starts of the championship having overcome injury.
