Louis Rees-Zammit has warned opponents he is about to get even faster with help from extra-curricular coaching in America.
‘Rees Lightning’ smoked the Wasps defence on Sunday as he ran the length of the field to score the try which brought Gloucester back from the dead.
The 21-year-old speed demon won the 100-metre foot race despite one of his boots being ‘broken’ and his back ‘jarred’.
It was yet another spectacular score for his showreel but the Wales and Lions wing is not satisfied and took himself Stateside in the off-season to sharpen his act.
Rees-Zammit explained: “I want to develop my game in terms of my agility and not just be a pace man.
“I didn’t really get the chance to show it [against Wasps] but I’ve been working on my agility and footwork.
“I am trying to develop all parts - defence, attack, my high balls, my breakdown work - bring a new dimension to my game.
“Can I get quicker? I don’t see why not. Against Wasps, to be honest, I felt quite slow!”
Seeing how club mate Jonny May benefitted from training at Olympic legend Michael Johnson’s performance centre in Texas, Rees-Zammit contacted Spencer Smith in Atlanta.
“He is a family relative who is a performance coach and has a load of contacts,” said the Penarth-born star. “I had never been to Atlanta before but loved it.
“We worked on my speed and agility, short and sharp stuff. Hopefully I can show it in the games coming.”
Gloucester have a bye-weekend and don’t play again until Saturday week when Rees-Zammit lines up against title favourites Saracens.
Whether crisis-hit Worcester are still in business then remains to be seen but hopes improved markedly last night when the management told staff a buyer had been found.
Hours earlier former director Jim O'Toole and partner James Sandford had thrown the stricken Premiership club a lifeline, claiming to have put together an offer that would ensure the club's financial security.
But they insisted the only viable solution was for the club is to enter administration - a move Warriors co-owners Jason Whittingham and Colin Goldring are opposed to.
Instead, the pair are understood to have agreed terms with an interested buyer, whose identity is as yet unknown, and claim they should have legal confirmation some time today.
Christian Wade has swapped the NFL for Paris after signing for Racing 92 for the rest of the season.
The former Wasps and England wing spent three years in American Football before being released by the Buffalo Bills.
He dipped his toe back into rugby union waters when guesting for sevens for Racing in a pre-season tournament in Pau.
And yesterday the wealthy Parisian outfit confirmed his signing when tweeting “Bienvenue [welcome] @Christianwade3 #RacingFamily”
Wade, the fourth-highest try scorer in Premiership history, declared: “This is officially my comeback to the world of rugby."
