Seb Davies has emerged as a shock contender to figure in the Wales starting back row for the Six Nations game with France on Friday evening.
And Josh Navidi is also being considered for a place alongside Taulupe Faletau.
The combination is one few people have touted since the game with England at Twickenham.
There again, Davies did come off the bench for Ross Moriarty in the final 10 minutes in London and Navidi was used by Cardiff at No. 7 in the United Rugby Championship match with Ulster.
It is assumed that in bringing Davies into the picture the selectors are looking at ways to counter France’s height at the back of the line, with Francois Cross, Anthony Jelonch and Gregory Alldritt, the breakaway trio that faced Scotland, all 6ft 3in or over.
Davies is 6ft 6in and mobile with it.
He also possesses exceptionally good handling skills for a man of his size.
It appears he might be edging ahead of the physical and abrasive Moriarty in the selection battle to face Les Bleus.

Wayne Pivac also wants to clean up the breakdown, where Wales conceded a rash of penalties against England, and improve discipline generally, with the referee penalising Pivac’s team 13 times last time out.
Specialist opensides Taine Basham and Jac Morgan have both impressed at various points in this Six Nations, and are both seen as having big futures, but Navidi has vast experience and was felt to have acquitted himself well in adversity against Ulster, with the Cardiff man making 16 tackles.
And the selectors are mulling over the possibility of a change in the front row, with Gareth Thomas having particularly impressed off the bench against England. But nothing has been settled as yet on that one.
