Wales defeat England in bowls final to clinch second gold medal of 2022 Commonwealth Games

Wales clinched their second gold medal of the 2022 Commonwealth Games by defeating England in the men's pairs lawn bowls final.

Jarrad Breen and Daniel Salmon produced a sublime display to secure a 19-18 victory over English duo Jamie Walker and Sam Tolchard. Victory lifted Wales above Malaysia and Nigeria up to eighth place in the overall medals table.

It was not all plain sailing for the Welsh duo, though. They held significant advantages during the course of what turned into a gripping match, going ahead 15-6 at one stage until England battled back to level at 16-16.

But Wales stood firm to record an impressive victory. It comes after Wales took bronze in the men's lawn bowls triples on Monday. Wales now have a total of 11 medals, with two silvers and seven bronzes to go with their pair of gold medals.

James Ball and Matthew Rotherham won the men's Tandem B Sprint Final at the weekend to clinch Wales' first gold medal of the Birmingham event.
