Wait for waves rolls on at Hawaii's Pipe Pro

Liam O'Brien must make his way through the sudden-death round when surfing resumes at the Pipe Pro. (HANDOUT/World Surf League)

Surfing in the Pipe Pro has been delayed for a further day, leaving only four days to complete the season-opening event in Hawaii.

World Surf League organisers waited for as long as possible for messy conditions at Banzai Pipeline to improve but at midday Tuesday (local time), made the decision to call competition off for the day.

Only one day of surfing has been completed, almost a week ago, before a storm hit the North Shore and conditions deteriorated.

The forecast for the final few days are for improved waves but there will be a huge schedule for the surfers, with the final two heats of the women's opening round first into the water.

Australia's Molly Picklum, who finished runner-up in the event last year, will be in one of those heats.

Picklum became the first woman to score a perfect 10 at the famous Pipeline break, nailing the ride in her semi-final, however she fell to 2024 world champion American Caitlin Simmers in the final.

Once the men's competition resumes, Australians Ryan Callinan, Joel Vaughan and Liam O'Brien are in the elimination round.

Queenslander O'Brien was a close third in his heat that was won by Australia's Olympic silver medallist Jack Robinson.
