Wahl Manscaper Body Grooming Trimmer review: smooth, consistent shaving with impressive safety features

Wahl Manscaper.

As body hair styles and requirements keep changing, more and more men are looking for the best body groomers to keep the chest, back and personal areas tame, tidy and trimmed. But when it comes to being a groomer or manscaper, it can be tricky to decide which one to buy, especially if you want the latter, as it’s quite terrifying to have a blade that close to your intimate parts.

A reliable and reputable grooming brand is Wahl, which recently came out with the Wahl Manscaper. The eagle-eyed of you reading this review will have noticed that I’m a woman and therefore have no need or experience with body groomers or manscapers but I got my guinea pig – aka my fiancé – to try out the Wahl Manscaper and these were his honest thoughts.

Wahl Manscaper review: price and unboxing

The Wahl Manscaper is £69.99 and available to buy at Wahl and select retailers like Amazon, Currys and Argos.

Within the box, you received the Wahl Manscaper main device, a charging cable, travel bag, brush and a small bottle of blade oil. Setting it up was easy as the Wahl Manscaper already came with a good amount of battery life, so it was ready to go once the box had been opened.

Wahl Manscaper review: design and features

The Wahl Manscaper is a personal body grooming trimmer that’s specifically designed for the groin area – although it can be used to trim all manner of hair. It has 20 cutting lengths to choose from, ranging from 0.5mm - 10mm that can be used on the groin, stomach, chest, armpits, back and more.

The stainless steel blades are safe-touch and ball-pointed to prevent any cuts, and the Wahl Manscaper has a wrap-around guard for even more safety. The guard and blades work together to offer a smooth shave that’s snag-free, and the comb can easily glide over bumps and curves for an even trim.

The design of the Wahl Manscaper is simple yet effective. It’s fairly lightweight and has a ‘cycle’ in the middle of the groomer which allows you to adjust the lengths. When you twist this part, the Wahl Manscaper increases by 0.5mm each time and the LED power display will indicate what setting you have. It also displays battery life and charge level.

The Wahl Manscaper is powered by Wahl’s advanced lithium ion technology which promises up to 100 minutes of running time. This requires just an 80 minute charge, but it also has a 3-minute quick charge for 3 minutes of continual use. The Wahl Manscaper is also waterproof so it can be used for both wet and dry use.

Wahl Manscaper review: performance

As mentioned above, I tasked my fiancé with testing out the Wahl Manscaper and he really enjoyed using it. The Wahl Manscaper was incredibly smooth, even on sensitive areas, and it didn’t tug on any hairs. It provided consistent and even results, plus the safety features put the mind at ease of any accidents or nicks.

The Wahl Manscaper was easy to adjust and the variety of length settings were well received. The LED display was also a big hit, as it indicates which length it’s on, while also displaying the battery life. During testing, the Wahl Manscaper didn’t need charging at all, so Wahl definitely has a right to boast about its battery life.

The only negative – if you can even call it that – is that the Wahl Manscaper does make a fair amount of noise when in action. Having said that, it doesn’t change volume when the length is changed or as the length gets higher or lower.

Finally, the Wahl Manscaper was incredibly easy to clean, and the blade brush and oil accessories made him confident that the Wahl Manscaper would last a while and keep the trimmer in top shape throughout the years.

Wahl Manscaper review: verdict

The Wahl Manscaper gets top points from T3, thanks to its clever controls, advanced safety features and multiple cutting lengths. There’s not much to dislike about it, other than it being a little loud, but you can’t really go wrong with the Wahl Manscaper – especially not for £69.99.

Wahl Manscaper review: alternatives to consider

Our top choice in our body groomer guide is the Philips BodyGroom 7000. While it could be better at getting to hard-to-reach areas, it’s a great all-over body groomer with a double-ended design that offers minimal irritation.

If it's a manscaper you’re looking for, any model from Manscaped comes highly recommended. See our 10 expert tips on manscaping for more grooming advice.
